“OXO POP” alone is not a sufficiently precise identity for deciding whether an online lid-care complaint applies to a container you are buying. An existing round-canister instruction sheet and a current square-container listing describe different care boundaries. Owner feedback is useful, but its model and generation matter.
Sources checked 24 October 2026. We have not tested a seal or washed a container. The current product reference is the U.S. Small Square Medium 1.7 Qt. POP Container, SKU 11233900. The older round-canister document below is a separate reference, not its instruction sheet.
The documents do not say the same thing about every POP lid
The current square-container page describes dishwasher-safe construction and a push-button seal. It also says to use the button for opening and closing and not to carry the container by its lid.
By contrast, OXO’s round POP Canisters instruction insert says the silicone gasket is dishwasher safe and other parts should be hand washed. This establishes that at least these two documents have different instructions. It does not date the introduction of every design or identify an unlabelled second-hand lid.
What the community discussion adds
In a discussion about a revised Costco POP assortment, one owner likes the containers for daily use and appreciates the available sizes. Another likes theirs but reports the seal becoming less satisfactory over time, explicitly noting that theirs are the older style.
Other replies question whether the assortment’s shapes match the foods they store. These are personal experiences with incompletely identified sets. They do not establish a leak rate, a vacuum specification, or that a complaint about one old lid applies to SKU 11233900. Jokes and unrelated product recommendations are not counted as product evidence.
Three details to obtain before buying or cleaning
- Exact identity: save the product name, shape, capacity and SKU from the offer or packaging. A photo showing only the POP button may leave the model unresolved.
- Matching care instructions: use the instructions for that product, including separate directions for parts where supplied. Do not replace them with a general statement from another POP thread.
- Useful dimensions: list the pantry items and shelf height you actually need. An assortment is good value only if its shapes are useful to you; this article quotes no current price.
If the lid cannot be identified, ask OXO for the matching guidance rather than assuming the most permissive instructions apply. Do not use a forum’s “vacuum” wording as proof that the manufacturer claims a vacuum-storage system.
Our view: evaluate the container and lid as an identified pair. The family name is helpful for finding products, but too broad to settle care, condition or how well a set fits your pantry.
