IKEA IVAR 83cm shelves: keep depth-specific component records separate from unit size

IKEA IVAR’s 83×30cm and 83×50cm pine shelves are different depth-specific components, not interchangeable evidence for a complete bookcase’s footprint. Buyers expanding an existing system should record the exact component and existing depth before making a shopping list. This guide reads current English IKEA Malaysia records for 103.181.64 and 603.181.66, checked on 3 October 2026. It is not an assembly, anchoring, load-design or structural-safety guide.

Keep the component codes with the dimensions

IKEA’s 103.181.64 shelf record lists 83cm width and 30cm depth, and says it fits IVAR storage of 30cm depth. The 603.181.66 record lists the same width with 50cm depth and the corresponding depth-specific fit. Both say a side unit is separately supplied. No exact update date is visible in these product sections.

Build a shopping record from the existing system

Our editorial method starts with what the buyer already owns. Identify the system and its depth using its original record or a reliable actual measurement. Then list the desired component separately. A shared IVAR name does not remove the need to match the depth, and the component’s width does not alone describe the overall width of an assembled arrangement.

For a first-time purchase, distinguish an individual shelf offer from a complete combination. Write each included component and any unresolved item beside the offer. That is a purchasing inventory, not a construction plan. The goal is to avoid treating a shelf photograph as evidence that a whole storage unit is included.

Record Question before buying Unsupported shortcut
Existing system Which exact depth and version is owned? Every IVAR component fits every arrangement
New shelf Which code and depth is supplied? Same width means the same component
Complete offer What separate items are included? An individual shelf is a complete bookcase
Room footprint What is the exact complete-unit record? Component width equals total installed width

Do not make dimensions serve as a safety conclusion

A dimensional match is useful evidence for purchase screening, but it does not establish the condition of an existing unit or a safe assembled installation. This article provides no load calculation, fastening instruction or advice about wall materials. Those requirements belong to current manufacturer instructions and a suitable assessment of the actual installation.

Likewise, a photograph of an older arrangement does not prove compatibility with a different revision. Retain the codes and region in the record, especially when researching used components. If an old combination chart and a current component page disagree about a complete arrangement, keep that arrangement unresolved instead of silently calculating a convenient total.

Limits of this comparison

Needs editor verification: existing-system identity, actual condition, all required parts and the current complete-unit instructions. We have not measured or assembled either component. No current availability, price, review consensus or installation approval is provided.

Our conditional purchasing judgment is to match depth-specific component records first, then verify the complete offer. The Malaysian sources do not establish offers in every country. Our Editorial Policy distinguishes documented dimensions from fit testing and safety claims.
