OXO salad-spinner feedback: cleaning satisfaction depends on the lid, material and dishwasher

A salad spinner can work well at the counter yet be awkward in a particular cleaning routine. OXO owner discussion makes that distinction more useful than a simple durable-or-not verdict.

As one identifiable reference, the Good Grips green spinner, SKU 1155901, lists a 6.22-quart bowl and 4.95-quart basket. OXO describes a pump, brake and lid that comes apart for cleaning. This is not proof that every older, steel or glass example has the same lid assembly.

Favourable reports and the reservations

In a public cleaning discussion, one Good Grips owner reports about fifteen years of service from a previous spinner and a manageable hand-washing routine. Another plastic-spinner owner reports several years without a problem and finds disassembly straightforward.

The same discussion contains reservations. The original poster, who bought a stainless-steel version, is frustrated by access to the pump mechanism. The satisfied plastic owner still finds the spinner difficult to fit on a dishwasher’s top rack. Other participants describe different lid experiences. These are not equivalent models in controlled conditions, and the comments do not establish a failure rate.

Try the cleaning route before choosing a size

Check the exact model’s removable parts and manufacturer care instructions. If dishwasher use is important, compare the actual rack space and permitted placement with the components rather than rely on a dishwasher-safe badge alone.

For hand washing, consider access to the sink and a place to dry the separated approved parts. Do not assume a commenter’s decision not to clean a mechanism is a general hygiene instruction, or dismantle components beyond the manufacturer’s directions.

Our assessment is to choose around the full cycle: operating the pump, removing the contents, cleaning, drying and storing. A larger bowl is not automatically a better purchase if its cleaning route is impractical in your kitchen. Materials, lid generation and personal routine belong beside any long-service anecdote.
