A Kakuno that accepts a converter is not necessarily a converter-equipped package. Before buying bottled ink for a first Pilot Kakuno, identify how the offered pen will hold that ink.
Pilot’s English Kakuno use-and-care guide, carrying the code 2501, distinguishes a cartridge from a separately sold converter. Its adult converter section names the rotary CON-40 and piston-type CON-70N. This is a specific compatibility record, not a claim that every Pilot converter or every market bundle is identical.
Two ways to supply ink
| Arrangement | What to identify in the purchase |
|---|---|
| Cartridge | The correct Pilot fountain-pen cartridge and whether it is supplied. |
| Bottled ink | The documented compatible converter plus suitable fountain-pen ink. |
| Gift or retailer bundle | Its actual separate contents, not just a compatible-accessory photograph. |
Someone who wants simple colour replacement may be satisfied with cartridges. Someone who wants a particular bottled ink needs the complete compatible arrangement. The choice changes what to buy and maintain; it does not establish that one ink source produces a better written line.
Keep the exact converter name
CON-70N is the name in this guide. Do not silently shorten it to an unspecified CON-70 listing, or assume another similarly sized product fits. If an older pen, regional listing or offered accessory is unclear, ask Pilot or an authorised seller to confirm the exact combination.
The guide specifies Pilot ink for Pilot fountain pens. It does not approve arbitrary drawing ink, paint or a cartridge selected only because it appears to fit. Follow the manufacturer’s filling and care diagrams rather than force a component or improvise modifications.
Our starter-kit choice would be modest: the identifiable pen, its appropriate initial ink supply and only the accessory needed for the chosen route. That avoids buying a bottle first and discovering that the pen package contains no documented way to draw from it.
