Samsung PRO Plus versus Kingston Canvas Go Plus: attach the speed claim to the reader

A larger maximum number on a microSD package does not tell you the transfer speed through the reader you already own. Samsung PRO Plus and Kingston Canvas Go! Plus SDCG4 both require attention to the exact card and transfer route.

The cited Samsung PRO Plus page lists up to 180MB/s read and 130MB/s write and ties stated performance to Samsung readers. The Kingston SDCG4 sheet says full performance requires a MobileLite Plus Reader. Neither is a benchmark of a card in your camera or computer.

Documented card Maximum read Maximum write
PRO Plus, cited MB-MD…S range 180MB/s 130MB/s
Canvas Go! Plus SDCG4, 64–128GB 200MB/s 100MB/s
Canvas Go! Plus SDCG4, 256GB–1TB 200MB/s 160MB/s

The capacity-specific Kingston values come from its manufacturer comparison chart. Do not apply the larger-capacity write figure to the 64GB card, or transfer SDCG4 figures to an older similarly named card.

Separate capture from unloading

A card used inside a camera and the same card read through a computer reader are two different connections. For capture, check the device maker’s exact card and recording-mode requirements. For unloading files, identify the reader, its computer connection and the storage receiving those files.

The cited models also carry U3, V30 and A2 designations, but those labels should not be treated as another spelling of the maximum sequential transfer claim. Nor does a full-size SD adapter automatically establish a reader capable of the advertised peak rate.

Our preference would be to compare the actual capacity and the reader arrangement as a pair. A faster card can be a reasonable purchase, but it should not be justified by a transfer-time prediction that assumes an unidentified reader and host.

Manufacturer pages and SDCG4 sheet checked 24 October 2026. All speeds are qualified maximum claims; no benchmark or device-compatibility test. Related: consumer electronics.
