Start a Simplehuman liner replacement with the code under the lid, not with the largest number printed on the can. Capacity describes volume; it does not fully identify the opening, bag shape or matching liner family.
Simplehuman’s product-support page directs users to the liner ID tag under the lid. Its U.S. 45L Rectangular Step Can with Liner Pocket page pairs the documented model with Code M. The Code M liner page also identifies that code. These sources were checked on 24 October 2026.
Make the replacement request unambiguous
- Read the liner code. Photograph the tag so that an indistinct letter can be checked again.
- Identify the can. Keep the product name, SKU or serial number where available. “The tall kitchen bin” is difficult for a seller to match.
- Match the selected packet. Check the liner code in the actual option being purchased, rather than relying on a multi-size listing’s main photograph.
If the tag is missing or unreadable, use the manufacturer’s product lookup with the can’s identifier. Do not assume another 45L product has the same liner code merely because its capacity matches this example. Sensor, step and different-shaped models appear separately in the support catalogue.
Fit and pack size are different decisions
After identifying the code, choose the packet quantity and any variant appropriate to your use. A large pack of the wrong code does not become a good fit because its advertised capacity seems close. Likewise, a manufacturer’s fit description is not an independent puncture or leak test by Olive Branch.
For a can you already own, inspect how the current liner sits at the rim before discarding the packaging. Keeping one correctly identified packet label with household supplies can make the next replacement straightforward, especially when more than one bin uses a different code.
Our preference is to resolve the small identification step before buying in bulk. The useful outcome is a repeatable replacement choice, not a claim that branded liners are always the only bags a household may use.
