Pelican 1510 versus 1535 Air: compare the same interior configuration

The lighter case is not automatically the better packing layout. Pelican’s 1510 Protector and 1535 Air have similar external envelopes, but their listed internal depth and empty weight differ.

The U.S. 1510 page lists a no-foam weight of 5.44kg and interior dimensions of 50.17 × 27.94 × 19.3cm. The 1535 Air page lists 3.94kg without foam and an interior of 51.79 × 28.45 × 18.31cm. Manufacturer figures were checked on 24 October 2026; they are not measurements of our own samples.

Case Listed exterior, cm No-foam weight
1510 Protector 55.88 × 35.08 × 22.86 5.44kg
1535 Air 55.78 × 35.48 × 22.81 3.94kg

Do not compare empty with equipped

The simple difference between those no-foam figures is 1.50kg. It is not a prediction of your packed weight. Foam, dividers, lid organisers and the actual equipment alter the result. Compare the same intended configuration and obtain its specific weight before making a final packing plan.

Make a paper layout of the equipment’s maximum dimensions, allowing for the protection system you intend to use. A lens or accessory standing upright can make internal depth decisive even when the overall internal volume looks similar. Rectangular headline dimensions also do not describe every local intrusion or contour.

Keep airline permission separate

Both manufacturer pages tell buyers to check their airline’s exact measurement requirements. A carry-on product label is not permission for every airline, fare or flight. Compare the current rules for the actual journey, including any packed-weight limit, before relying on cabin carriage.

Our choice would begin with the equipment and insert layout. If both arrangements work, the lower listed empty weight of the 1535 Air becomes useful. If the required arrangement depends on the 1510’s extra listed depth, choosing only by the empty-weight number could create a different problem.

Manufacturer dimensional comparison, not a protection, packing or airline-acceptance test. No guarantee of fit for a particular camera kit. Related: buying guides.
