Hue Bridge Pro placement: use the model-specific Wi-Fi setup instructions

For Hue Bridge Pro placement, the dedicated setup instructions give a clearer answer than a general article about connecting a Hue Bridge to Wi-Fi. The Pro-specific page explicitly offers a Wi-Fi or Ethernet choice. Keep the exact model attached to any connection advice.

The wording difference that matters

On 24 October 2026, Philips Hue’s UK Bridge Pro setup page instructs the user to select Wi-Fi or Ethernet in the app. For the Wi-Fi choice it says not to use the supplied Ethernet cable. It also places QR-code scanning before powering the unit.

A broader U.S. Bridge Wi-Fi article includes both V2 and Pro but also says the Bridge must be hardwired. We do not extend that general statement to override the explicit Pro-specific connection choice. This is a documentation-scope distinction, not a claim that every Bridge generation has Wi-Fi.

Plan the position before hiding the label

For an initial setup, keep the unit and its QR code accessible. A photograph of a finished shelf arrangement can make it tempting to put the hub into its final position first; the dedicated instructions explain why that can be inconvenient.

Write down the intended location, available power and preferred network connection. If you plan Ethernet, include the cable route in the decision. If you plan Wi-Fi, confirm the actual Pro model and follow the app’s connection path. Neither choice, by itself, proves coverage or responsiveness for the whole lighting system.

After following the official setup, check the lights and controls you ordinarily use from the intended location. Keep the network arrangement in your setup note so that a later change of router or placement can be compared with what previously worked. This is an observation plan, not a request to disable network protections or reset an existing system.

What this changes in a buying comparison

A person with a convenient router shelf and a person without a convenient cable route may value connection flexibility differently. Treat placement as one requirement among your actual needs; it does not alone establish that replacing a working older hub is worthwhile.

Our view: use the dedicated instructions for the exact model before buying around an assumed cable restriction. Keep unresolved performance questions separate from the documented connection options, and ask official support about any discrepancy relevant to your regional unit.
