The YETI Rambler 20oz with MagSlider makes more sense as an accessible drinking cup than as a filled container packed in a bag. That distinction explains much of the mixed owner feedback: people enjoy the simple lid while wishing it offered a different level of spill protection.

The product description settles the packed-bag question

On the U.S. 20oz tumbler page, YETI describes the MagSlider as an additional barrier and explicitly states it is not leakproof and will not prevent spills. The page also distinguishes tumblers from bottles intended to create a leakproof seal. This concerns the MagSlider tumbler, not the separate StrongHold travel-mug lid.

A slider that closes over a drinking opening can look reassuring. The purchasing requirement still needs to be stated: will the drink remain upright and accessible, or will it be packed among other belongings? For the latter task, this product’s own limitation is decisive.

Convenience is a real positive, even with that limit

In a MagSlider opinion discussion, responding users like the straightforward cleaning, interchangeable colours and simple magnetic mechanism. The original question and other replies express the opposite frustration: they want more protection against liquid escaping, especially around bag use. Comments about StrongHold mugs are a different lid and are excluded from this comparison.

A historical 20oz owner’s question describes liquid coming through a closed slider when tipped. That anecdote is consistent with the maker’s stated limitation; it is not a test of current manufacturing quality or proof that every reported leak has the same cause.
