reMarkable Paper Pro owner feedback: a larger colour page is not everyone’s better notebook

The reMarkable Paper Pro makes the clearest case when colour annotations and a larger document page solve a problem you already have. It is a less obvious upgrade if you mainly love the size and writing feel of your current notebook. Early owner accounts show both reactions.

Research checked 24 October 2026; no tablet was tested. This article concerns the original Paper Pro and selected historical owner discussions, not the smaller Paper Pro Move or every current software version.

What the product documentation establishes

The manufacturer’s Paper Pro page lists an 11.8-inch colour display and adjustable reading light. Its compatibility answer says the reMarkable 2 Marker is not compatible with Paper Pro. Those are useful purchase facts: an existing pen should not silently be treated as a reusable accessory.

The maker’s description of a paper-like surface is a product claim, not proof that every writer will prefer its feel. That distinction matters in the community feedback.

The positive case: the document finally fits

In one three-day owner account, the writer enjoyed reading prepared PDFs and colour highlighting, after having found an older reMarkable unsuitable for the size of their study material. Their workflow included cropping PDF margins before importing documents. The improvement was therefore a combination of the device and document preparation.

This account is useful if you have similarly dense pages. It is early feedback, not evidence of long-term durability or proof that all uncropped files will be comfortable.

The reservation: faster does not settle preference

A separate Paper Pro versus reMarkable 2 discussion praises the Pro’s responsiveness but prefers aspects of the older device’s PDF appearance, compactness and pen feel. The author describes a grainier-looking Pro page, while also finding its text contrast better. Their later cover-related correction is another reason to read the full discussion rather than repeat its first version.

These opinions can coexist. A person who prioritises a smooth-looking text page may weigh the trade-off differently from someone who needs room for coloured marks.

Build a five-page trial from your own work

  1. Choose a small-text PDF, a chart with a meaningful colour distinction, a blank writing page, a heavily annotated page and a page you frequently revisit.
  2. Use the same files when comparing devices. Record any cropping or layout changes rather than crediting the screen for them.
  3. Evaluate handwriting feel separately from page loading and document readability. One favourable reaction need not settle all three.
  4. Check the exact Marker and cover included in the local offer. Compare a complete working kit, without assuming older accessories transfer.

Editorial verdict: treat Paper Pro as a workflow choice, not an automatic upgrade. The case strengthens when colour carries information and a larger page reduces your need to zoom or prepare documents. It weakens when portability and an already familiar writing feel matter more. This is a judgement framework, not an unperformed product test.
