The MX Master 3S’s horizontal wheel is useful only if its behaviour suits the applications you work in. An owner discussion reviewed here contains a strong complaint about smoothing, alongside a reply from a satisfied work user. The disagreement is a reason to compare workflows, not proof that either experience is universal.
Research checked 24 October 2026; no mouse or software installation tested. This concerns the MX Master 3S family, not the MX Anywhere 3S or MX Master 4. The current U.S. manufacturer URL resolves to a Bluetooth Edition listing, so historical comments about another package should not establish the receiver contents of that offer.
Keep the edition and software context visible
Logitech’s current listing identifies MX Master 3S Bluetooth Edition and describes Quiet Clicks, its MagSpeed wheel and an 8,000-DPI sensor. It links customisation with Logi Options+ on Windows and macOS. None of those descriptions supplies a measured scrolling result for your browser, spreadsheet or timeline.
Do not let a broad productivity label conceal a narrow requirement. Selecting a cell in a wide sheet, moving across a timeline and scrolling a web page can all make different demands on how a wheel accelerates and stops.
A negative report with a useful boundary
The author of a horizontal-scrolling complaint describes unwanted smoothing with Options+ and says behaviour changes without it, at the cost of desired functions. A later reply identifies Windows as the author’s environment. This is a historical account of that setup, not a verified current software defect.
In the same discussion, another respondent likes the mouse for work with Logic and Final Cut Pro. A different writer describes their own connection-dependent experience. These contrasting reports cannot establish the cause of the original issue, and advice about another operating system is not automatically transferable.
A small acceptance sheet for your desk
| Record | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Mouse edition and connection | Keep the offer and actual connection method distinct from another user’s package. |
| Operating system and app version | A historical complaint may concern a different software environment. |
| Task and stopping point | Try reaching a known column, timeline point or page position, rather than spinning the wheel without a purpose. |
| Features you need together | Check the scrolling behaviour while using your intended shortcuts; do not evaluate each feature in isolation. |
This is an editorial comparison method, not a troubleshooting fix. Avoid changing system settings or uninstalling software merely because a stranger reports success. Use the vendor’s current support instructions for your exact situation and preserve your working configuration.
Our view: shortlist the 3S when its controls match a defined work task, then make app-specific scrolling part of acceptance. A mouse that one person loves for a creative workflow can still disappoint somebody whose key requirement is a different scrolling response.
