Kobo Libra Colour with Stylus 2: check the document, not only the reader

A Kobo Libra Colour and Kobo Stylus 2 can be a compatible hardware pair without making every PDF writable. Kobo’s support documentation includes Libra Colour among supported readers, but its file list distinguishes EPUB, Kobo EPUB and non-protected PDF. Check the document you actually need to annotate before buying around the stylus feature.

Scope: Kobo Libra Colour with Kobo Stylus 2, using Kobo’s English-language support page, checked 3 October 2026. This is a hardware-and-file buying check. The support article is not a country-specific offer, nor a guarantee of compatibility with every book, file restriction or future firmware version.

Separate device, document and output

The reader identity answers whether the stylus is supported. The file type and protection status answer a different question. The result you want to keep or share introduces a third. A product photograph of handwriting on a page does not establish the complete route from your particular source document to a usable output.

Layer Record before purchase What remains open
Hardware Libra Colour and Stylus 2 as separate exact names Actual offer contents and accessory condition
Reading file EPUB, Kobo EPUB or PDF; known restrictions Whether the representative file permits the intended markup
Notebook task Freehand notes or converted text Required output and conversion suitability

Kobo describes a built-in notebook feature with handwriting-to-text conversion. It also says Stylus 1 and Stylus 2 use different replacement tips. These are useful distinctions when comparing an accessory bundle; they do not support a claim that an arbitrary replacement tip or another Kobo reader is compatible.

Choose a representative document, not an ideal sample

For study use, identify one ordinary course document and describe what matters: margin space, legibility, handwritten comments or a later text record. For work, use a permitted non-sensitive sample with comparable formatting. Do not upload confidential material merely to test a purchase idea. A screenshot of a book page cannot substitute for the actual document’s format and restrictions.

Ask for a demonstration of the intended task using that type of sample where feasible. Keep the reader’s firmware version and the file’s source with the observation. A result from another application or another reader model should be labeled as such. This article has not performed a markup, export or recognition test, and does not report a success rate.

Budget the accessory identity, without inventing a bundle

Make a list containing the reader, exact stylus, suitable case if wanted and any replacement consumables. Then compare the actual seller’s package description with that list. “Stylus support” describes a capability; it does not by itself prove the stylus is included in the particular offer. Treat photographed accessories as illustrative until the offer explicitly identifies them.

Our editorial judgment is that the file check should come before optional case or color choices. It prevents a hardware-compatible purchase from being described as a verified document workflow. If the file’s protection status, offered accessory or required output is unclear, record Needs editor verification instead of a confident compatibility badge.

What this record does not claim

No handwriting latency, recognition accuracy, display quality or durability testing was conducted. No current stock, price or regional warranty is asserted. A protected-file workaround is outside this guide. The Editorial Policy explains how a documentation-based record differs from an independently tested review.
