It does not provide an absolute number of seconds for every paper and hand movement.

Three numbers with different meanings

Number

Meaning

85 percent

A qualified relative drying-time claim.

0.5mm in that comparison

The specified version used for the cited condition.

0.7mm on the EU record

A point-size option, not automatically a 0.7mm written line.

The EU product page lists a 0.7mm point and 0.37mm writing width, along with a JLV refill. Those fields should not be merged into an assertion that every Sarasa Dry writes the same line or that every Sarasa refill is interchangeable.

Test the task rather than a marketing adjective

For someone who closes a notebook immediately or moves a hand across fresh writing, the relevant question is what happens on that actual paper. If a sample is available, use the ordinary writing speed and page rather than a surface selected only to make a demonstration look good.

Paper, ink quantity and contact timing can change the practical outcome. A single smear does not disprove every qualified manufacturer test, while one successful stroke does not establish universal smear resistance. Keep your own result separate from the maker’s comparison.

We would choose the desired point and compatible refill first, then assess drying behaviour in the intended notebook. The Japan page’s conditions make the advertised percentage useful context; stripping them away turns it into a stronger claim than the cited evidence supports.

Zebra Japan and EU records checked 24 October 2026.
